General Information
What is KindaDek Marine?
KindaDek Marine is a composite marine decking made from recycled plastic and reclaimed wood. It is used an alternative to timber for pontoons, jetties, break waters and walkways. It combines the best attributes of wood and plastic making it the ideal choice for marine use.
What is the composition of KindaDek Marine?
KindaDek Marine is generally 50% reclaimed wood and 50% recycled plastic.
What finishes/colours of KindaDek Marine boards are available?
KindaDek Marine can be sanded/brushed to give an authentic wood like finish. Colours available are Natural similar to Yellow Balau frequently used on pontoons but with volumes can be colour matched to the wood colour of your choice to blend in with your marina.
Will the colour of KindaDek Marine change?
KindaDek Marine will change (weather) colour slightly after 12 weeks exposure to the sunlight and water due to the natural weathering process of wood and polymer content.
What size and length does KindaDek Marine come in?
We currently have a standard size of 145 X 23 mm although KindaDek Marine can be matched to your existing timber profile design with cost effective tooling Standard lengths are 2.2, 3.7 and 4.9LM
Is KindaDek Marine slippery like timber?
No. KindaDek Marine material provides a good slip-resistant surface – wet or dry. It has been tested to British Standard BS7976 and passed and is ideal for pontoon use.
What is the reaction of KindaDek Marine to fire?
KindaDek Marinehas a much higher ignition than wood. Its Self-ignition Temperature is 450°C / 840°F, thus it is less likely to catch fire. KindaDek Marine has been tested by Warrington Fire Service, the UK leading fire-testing facilities and passed BS476 Part 7 rating.
Maintenance
How long can KindaDek Marine be used?
KindaDek Marine comes with 25 years warranty in Europe and 10 years in extreme weather conditions against splintering, splinting, rot, decay and termite/marine borer damage.
Do I need to treat, paint or stain KindaDek Marine?
No. KindaDek Marine is highly resistant to rotting, splintering and decay damage. It doesn't require any traditional timber treatment for protection and comes with a UV colour pigment. For extreme weather conditions additional colour and UV additives combine to increase the longevity of colour.
Will KindaDek Marine suffer from rotting, splintering and decay damage like traditional wood?
No. Due to the extremely low moisture absorption, water cannot pose any deteriorating threat to KindaDek Marine.
KindaDek Marine is grooved, how easy is it to clean?
Yes. Most heavy stains, dirt and algae can be washed off by using a common deck cleaner as used by marina managers.

Oil, grease and stubborn stains may require a de-greasing cleaner or light sanding to remove the stain. Keeping the deck clean, free of debris and maintaining drainage and ventilation gaps should allow for the minimum of maintenance.

Do not allow debris to lie on the deck surface as this will cause staining and promote algae growth. This can be easily removed by power washing but not over 1500psi.
Installation
What tools are required to install KindaDek Marine?
No special tools are required to install KindaDek Marine. It is just as easy to work with as wood. When sawing, use a saw blade with fewer teeth (like 18 – 24 on a 450 mm blade). The blade will work easier, stay cooler and last longer.
What fasteners are recommended for KindaDek Marine?
Any screws and nails work well with KindaDek Marine. We recommend using high quality screws and nails such as stainless steel.Pre-drilling and countersinking are also recommended when using on your pontoons.
Does KindaDek require gapping between boards?
Yes. Changes in temperature will cause a slight expansion or contraction of KindaDek. Therefore, gapping is required both side-to-side and end-to-end of the boards on your pontoon.

What is the joist span for KindaDek Marine boards?
The joists must be spaced according to the Span Chart below. Make sure that all joists are level and centred. The decking must span at least three joists on your finger/pontoon.
